# About Me
![[Roc Profile 2.jpeg|250]]
Hello!
I'm Roc — a guy who studies and writes about the human condition. I'm also a teacher, mentor and explorer at heart. Ever since I was a child, I was always extremely curious about myself, others and the world around me. And I still am! I love learning about, exploring and contemplating what it means to be human as well as the nature of reality and existence itself. Sometimes I just stare off into the ether and think to myself how insane it is to be alive, and not only to be alive, but to be alive AND know that we are.
With that, I have a deep appreciation and gratitude for the opportunity to be here in this experience we call Life. Particularly because we’re equivalent to a tiny speck of dust living on a floating rock in space, which itself is equivalent to a tiny speck of dust amidst something far grander than our limited, finite minds are capable of comprehending.
On a more practical level, I have a background in IT consulting where I've been a lead Business Analyst, System Analyst and Solution Designer for the entirety of my career of which I'm currently taking a break from.
I'm also a Developmental Coach who's trained in the [[Aletheia Coaching]] methodology (currently level 2) with special interests in Mindful Somatics, [[Parts Work]] and [[Nervous System]] wellbeing.
# About The Book
This site is a bit different to a traditional website. The Book is fully written in [markdown](https://www.markdownguide.org/getting-started/) on an application called [Obsidian](https://obsidian.md/), and then published to the internet using [Obsidian Publish](https://obsidian.md/publish).
Building this website in Obsidian hasn't been the smoothest, and that's because the functionality for publishing and managing the website itself is rather basic. I've spent far too long agonising on whether or not I should actually be building what I am building in here, but after researching other options, I've kept coming back to this platform.
Why? Because it is so simple to write pages, connect ideas, and then publish them to the internet. Turns out its greatest limitation is also its greatest strength.
The whole point of Obsidian is to essentially take notes on what you're curious about and then connect them to other notes you've already written so you can build out a kind of interconnected web of knowledge. It is the note-taking representation of [[Parts come together to reveal new wholes beyond what they are alone|emergence]], because you come here without any structure, and it is difficult (and also tiring) to try and plan a structure before you know what you are going to be building (trust me, I've tried—I've been messing around with Obsidian for a few years now).
In this way, it gives you a way to work with chaos, and for what I am doing—creating an organic and unfolding exploration into the human condition, it's perfect.
In addition, it's also completely offline. I write in the Obsidian app environment mostly on desktop, but sometimes on mobile, and I have full control and ownership over the markdown files I create, which I really appreciate.
## Operations and Housekeeping
I'm not just building a website. I am also building a resource for myself, and for others, that I can keep returning to over time, building out and iterating on.
Things might feel a little unpolished. If that happens, it's likely because you're viewing an early version of my thinking on a particular idea, concept or topic. You can either expect it to evolve over time, or if you find any mistakes, errors, or just have suggestions for changes—please feel free to [send me an email](mailto:
[email protected]).
What is published online is a subset of my personal pages. I often work on my pages in the personal section on my vault before I decide to publish them. Some pages will never be published, for obvious reasons. Sometimes you might find links that go nowhere. If that happens, it's either because the page doesn't yet exist (and it will soon), or, it is pointing somewhere in my personal vault.
Because of the iterative and emergent nature of Obsidian, as well as the Obsidian Publish platform being as it is, it might feel a little confusing or overwhelming at first to know where to start. You can head over to [[🧭 Orientation]] to find out how you can get the most out of being here.
In terms of knowing what's been added to the site, you can go to the [[🆕 Posts]] page to find out what's been published for each month. I usually do an update at the end of each month.
