Big T Trauma represents [[Trauma|Traumatic]] experiences that are acute, severe, overwhelming and often life-threatening. Contrast to [[Little T Trauma isn't about bad things happening, it's about good things not happening|Little T Trauma]], these are the events that include violence, physical or sexual abuse, serious accidents, war or natural disasters. Big T Trauma can be once-off or repeated, which when repeated takes it into the realm of [[Developmental Trauma|Complex Trauma]].
This kind of trauma is what our society most easily recognises because it's overtly visible, obvious and tough to ignore. It's also the kind of trauma which our society recognises as "abnormal", as in something no human should typically go through in their lifetime. This also sometimes leads to people taking this as the sole definition of trauma, not recognising that [[Little T Trauma isn't about bad things happening, it's about good things not happening|Little T Trauma]] first of all IS trauma, and second of all has the potential to be just as damaging to Big T Trauma, depending on the frequency and intensity it occurs at.
