Building on the work of [[Wilhelm Reich]], Lowen developed Bioenergetics—an approach that weaves together the body and mind to work with emotional and psychological challenges. What made Lowen’s work so impactful was his conviction that trauma and emotional conflict aren’t just things we carry in our minds—they’re physically stored and imprinted on our bodies too. He believed unresolved emotions show up as chronic muscle tension, posture imbalances, and restricted breathing—what he called "body armor." In his books such as The Language of the Body and Bioenergetics, Lowen shared practical techniques to help people reconnect to their bodies and embody their physicality. These techniques included grounding exercises, expressive movements and deep breathing practices to release trapped emotions so as to rekindle a sense of aliveness. Lowen’s work was a game-changer as he helped bring body-centred therapy out of the fringes and into the mainstream, combining Reich’s ideas with practical tools that made the approach accessible and impactful for a much wider audience. ### Books - [[The Language of the Body by Alexander Lowen]] - [[Joy by Alexander Lowen]] - [[Bioenergetics by Alexander Lowen]]
