**🔼 Up:** [[Attunement]] **\#️⃣ Tags:** #Dictionary #Wisdom #Philosophy > **🌱 Planted:** Mon 10 March 2025 --- ***Poetic Attunement transforms our entire way of being.*** Poetic Attunement can be thought of as a way of being that is attuned to attunement itself. Unlike our default modes of attunement which operate in the background without our awareness, Poetic Attunement invites a deeper receptivity to [[Truth, Beauty & Goodness]] for its own sake. It's an orientation and stance of openness that allows us to appreciate others for who they are, exactly as they are, including their good intentions, and allows reality to reveal itself and unfold rather than attempting to control or categorise our experience. The term was coined by Steve March from [[Aletheia Coaching]] who drew from [[Martin Heidegger]]'s work on the nature of Being. Heidegger distinguishes between regular attunement and Poetic Attunement in a fundamental way. Our default modes of attunement shape how we experience the world, but we're typically blind to the attunement itself—as if we're seeing the world through orange tinted glasses, forgetting we had them on. Poetic Attunement enables us to become aware of these glasses we're wearing in which we are orienting toward the world with. With this awareness, we can modify the way we attune which creates the possibility for profound shifts in our way of being. In [[Survival Attunement distorts our entire way of being|Technological Attunement]], we orient to everything in the world primarily as resources to be utilised. This mode of attunement obfuscates the richness of Being itself by reducing the world and even other people to functional roles rather than recognising them as living, unfolding beings. In Poetic Attunement, we relate to reality not for what it can do for us, but for what it already is. Rather than seeing Being as something to be mastered, it approaches Being as something to be met and experienced. This is why Heidegger saw poetry as a portal of sorts to the [[Truth, Beauty, and Goodness are properties of being which reveal the true nature of reality|Truth, Beauty, and Goodness]] in the human world. True poetry doesn't describe reality—it evokes a feeling, an essence... an attunement within the person taking in that piece of poetry. It transmits a way of seeing, feeling, and relating that cannot be reduced to mere information. In this way, Poetic Attunement is not limited to poetry itself but speaks to a broader way of inhabiting and orienting toward the world—the art of perceiving life poetically. When we engage in Poetic Attunement, we shift from wanting to resist and control reality to loving and accepting it for what it is, as it is. With this, we're able to transform how we navigate complexity. If we're not exerting our energy trying to control what is, we can instead participate in its unfoldment. If we feel stuck, we could simply ask ourselves "What do I know to be true right now in this moment?". This subtle shift in attunement can take us away from problem-solving and deliver us to wisdom-receiving. While [[Our normal developmental needs are met through empathic attunement and mutual recognition|Empathic Attunement]] allows us to feel into another's experience, Poetic Attunement extends this receptivity to our entire lived experience. Modifying the way we are attuning to the world and shifting into a Poetic Attunement unfolds an entirely new way of being in the world. It creates the conditions for relating to ourselves, others and the world in a fundamentally new way which opens up perspectives and possibilities that would otherwise remain invisible from our default mode of attuning to the world—and therefore to Being itself. # See Also - [[Contemplation (θεωρία)]] - [[Truth, Beauty & Goodness]] - [[Technological Attunement]]
